Visiting Victoria, the City of Gardens
The Port Angeles Ferry, M.V. Coho, is just 20 minutes away from the Inn. It’s a favorite day trip getaway for our guests. As a guest at George Washington Inn, we are happy to assist with reservations and other information to customize your Victoria experience. We lived and worked in greater Victoria as newlyweds in the late ‘70s, and we’ve returned many times since to this beautiful city. It’s one of our favorite destinations, and we would be delighted to help you experience it.
Enjoy the grounds of the Parliament Building, the beauty of the famous Empress Hotel, Butchart Gardens and more. Once in Victoria, the Inner Harbour and downtown shops are easily walkable. Public transportation is readily available to Chinatown and other areas within the city, or consider the Hop On Hop Off tour aboard the vintage double decker buses. For tours to Butchart Gardens, the Coho Ferry offers a delightfully informative and comfortable ride at a reasonable price. Make sure you bring your passport and some good walking shoes, then leave the rest to us.
Coho Ferry to Victoria
Victoria is a pleasant 90-minute ferry ride from Port Angeles aboard the M.V. Coho. Park your car across from the terminal and travel as walk-on passengers (our recommendation), or take your car with you to Victoria (ferry reservations recommended). During the summer months, the ferry departs at 8:15 a.m. with an evening return at 7:30, allowing for a full day to explore all that Victoria has to offer. Let us know your plans and we will be happy to provide you with a breakfast-to-go for you to enjoy onboard the ferry.
Butchart Gardens
The Butchart Gardens is a 119-year-old internationally-renowned 55-acre display garden located just outside of Victoria in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia. The gardens were created by Jennie Butchart, and remain privately owned and operated by the family. Today, The Butchart Gardens is a National Historic Site of Canada. Millions of plants in over 900 varieties await you as you wander The Gardens.
