Visiting Victoria, the City of Gardens

The Port Angeles Ferry, M.V. Coho, is just 20 minutes away from the Inn. It’s a favorite day trip getaway for our guests. As a guest at George Washington Inn, we are happy to assist with reservations and other information to customize your Victoria experience. We lived and worked in greater Victoria as newlyweds in the late ‘70s, and we’ve returned many times since to this beautiful city. It’s one of our favorite destinations, and we would be delighted to help you experience it.

Enjoy the grounds of the Parliament Building, the beauty of the famous Empress Hotel, Butchart Gardens and more. Once in Victoria, the Inner Harbour and downtown shops are easily walkable. Public transportation is readily available to Chinatown and other areas within the city, or consider the Hop On Hop Off tour aboard the vintage double decker buses. For tours to Butchart Gardens, the Coho Ferry offers a delightfully informative and comfortable ride at a reasonable price. Make sure you bring your passport and some good walking shoes, then leave the rest to us.

Coho Ferry to Victoria

Victoria is a pleasant 90-minute ferry ride from Port Angeles aboard the M.V. Coho. Park your car across from the terminal and travel as walk-on passengers (our recommendation), or take your car with you to Victoria (ferry reservations recommended). During the summer months, the ferry departs at 8:15 a.m. with an evening return at 7:30, allowing for a full day to explore all that Victoria has to offer. Let us know your plans and we will be happy to provide you with a breakfast-to-go for you to enjoy onboard the ferry.

Butchart Gardens

The Butchart Gardens is a 119-year-old internationally-renowned 55-acre display garden located just outside of Victoria in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia. The gardens were created by Jennie Butchart, and remain privately owned and operated by the family. Today, The Butchart Gardens is a National Historic Site of Canada. Millions of plants in over 900 varieties await you as you wander The Gardens.

Miniature World

Over 85 exciting miniature dioramas and displays! Fun for all ages in downtown Victoria.

Craigdarroch Castle

Built during the reign of Queen Victoria, this National Historic Site has been meticulously restored, giving visitors a glimpse of 1890s privilege.

China Town

The Chinatown in Victoria, BC is the oldest Chinatown in Canada and the second oldest in North America after San Francisco. It’s a bustling area with great shopping.

Royal BC Museum

Walk through a replica rainforest, sit among aboriginal poles and masks, wander through a big house, view a replica HMS Discovery, and explore the shops in Old Town.

Beacon Hill Park

A favorite outdoor area close to the city center. The park is home to huge trees, gardens, and ponds. From the highest point, you can view across the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic Mountains beyond.

Fisherman’s Wharf

You’ll find food kiosks, unique shops and eco-tour adventures in this working harbor setting. It’s a terrific setting for watching the seals, boats and people.

What our Guests are Saying:

It could not have been better! Our visit was delightful in every way. Dan & Janet are gracious and lovely hosts. The Inn is beautiful and they have thought of every detail to make you stay perfect. Our room was large with great windows, the king bed was very comfortable and we loved the “champagne bubble tub”. Breakfast was delicious and Janet made us breakfast to go on the our day excursion to Victoria and the day we left. Not your ordinary breakfast to go either.Quite Nice!!! We enjoyed all the surrounding lavender fields, although not fully in bloom yet. Our stay was wonderful and we hope to return sometime in the future. Thank you Janet & Dan! Amber
